Someone shows that he cares

My dog, Sandy, has officially lost 6 lbs on her diet. This is only amazing because my pudgeroo GAINED about ten pounds on each of her last two diets, something I attribute to my mother's need to overfeed. I swear, there's never been a worse motherly instinct for my mom to come up with on the spot. She gets all the practice she needs on my brothers and then she turns around to the dog and acts as if Sandy's poor little mind is telling her, "FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD."

Actually, I'm fairly certain that is what Sandy's trying to say.

The problem with keeping the dog on a steady diet is a lack of communication, as well as Sandy's amazingly fast reflexes when food is involved. My dad feeds her (too much) sometime in the morning, and when I come home (4 PM), the dog's bowl is empty so I line the bottom of it with kibbles. I swear, if I weren't afraid of being permanently mutated by the kibbles, I would have counted an exact number out.

Unfortunately for me, by then, she's probably already eaten two pity snacks, another half cup of food, and is lying in wait for my mom to come home and cook her something. This is something that I've warned my mom about, yet she seems so eager to do. Make a meal for the parents, one for the kids, one for the dog — and quick as a wink, before anyone can take the food away from Sandy, it's gone.

So I've done my part, I believe. I've replaced all the high-fat doggie biscuits with low calorie, low fat treats (Pup-Corn), bought her a Booda® Snack 'n Roll (rolly football) to put them in, and took her on a magical mystery doggie gossip tour around the neighborhood.

I think, ideally, she should weigh around 55 lbs. It's hard to believe she's almost doubled her weight since we got her. It's not healthy, and I want to remedy it. SANDY, I'M WATCHING OUT FOR YOU.

Rofl. Our cat when she was younger, used to weigh almost three times her idea weight… she was so obese. But I guess at cute as it seems at the time, nobody wants to be obese.

Good luck with the puppy weight loss! I can’t believe those pup-corn snacks… you can buy everything for your pets these days. Hehe.

100th comment! HOW GEEKY IT IS THAT IT’S ACTUALLY MY OWN ^_^

They’re so cute! They’re shaped like doggies, complete with tails. It’s almost cute how Sandy relishes this pseudo-cannibalism.

Hm…pseudo-cannibalism… This might be something you want to look out for, lest she move on to larger prey! o_0

Oh, I wish I had a dog or three!! I may get one when I move in with my man. It sounds hard, having a dog on diet, but I guess it’s easier than being on a diet myself.. Oh well. Life

It’s only hard because the dieting process involves starving the body - basically, making scarce the amount of food it was used to. So she fusses a lot, but she’s used to it now. I just have to barely fill her bowl and look away from her while she inspects it and goes, “WTF this is it? God damn it, I hate you guys.”

My dog is going to grow up to be an anarchist, I swear.

Thank you all for the kind words - I’d pass them onto Sandy, but she’s a bit preoccupied right now wiping her butt on the carpet :(
