So I can feel happier

Over the next week, this site will slowly transform into the style I created for my redesign. I have a few things that I have yet to fix, so you may not see changes immediately, but there will definitely be changes. This page is basically my assurance to you that if, for some reason, a page breaks or doesn't display correctly, I'm working on it. I'll have a much better post to replace this one when the redesign is complete!

And don't worry, I'll save my stylesheet and index pages. I love this design a lot, but I need something new every now and then. Can't wait to get started :D

Update #1: Trouble is brewing

So it looks pretty nice, right? The IE version still has a few random issues I can rail out. Movable Type is the only thing hindering me from bringing down the rather useless barrier. I have to reorganize my categories, fix my archives, and add taglines to each of my past eighty posts. Then, I have to check all of them and make sure they display properly. This is the easy stuff.

Things I want that Movable Type won't let me do:

  • Subcategories — can it really be that hard to implement them? All I have to do is make a set of subcategories and make a link to them from the <MTCategory> thingy. Hell, there isn't even a <MTSubCategoryLabel> tag for me to work with. For you RandomShapes fellows: fine. Advantage: Wordpress.

  • Blogroll/Links list — what blog nowadays doesn't have a blogroll somewhere? I'd rather not update my page as if it were completely static. I did this when I was posting my reveries and I didn't like it at all. I want another way to do it, and it might involve learning Movable Type. I found a plugin to do this for me, but like half of the other plugins I've been trying out, it hasn't installed. Rather, it won't install, and that obstinacy makes all the difference when figuring out how far away from sanity I am right now.

  • Outbound linksDan Cederholm figured this out. Look at the cute little stars and the simple links beside them! I have it all set up, but I can't integrate it. I created a new category and a new template module, but I have no idea of how to stick it in. It's terrible. I'm so close and so far simultaneously. Terrible.

So that's my story. I'm so close. It's functional, but I'm just worn out. I never knew Movable Type was this complicated. I'll try not to disappoint, but if my page isn't done in a week, you know why!

Ranjani! It all looks really lovely. I actually think I like this version better, I mean, it’s still the same pink that believe it or not, I associate with you, but different at the same time. I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with MT, so I can’t really help you there, but I hope you get everything fixed soon (and then maybe, just maybe I will get around to reviewing you…!)

Grungy! I love grunge! And the menu looks really neat. But, I have a stupid complaint. The header repeating background thingy is’nt seamlessly reapeating. I can see a vertical line. :(

And also I am very jealous of your l33t writting skills! :P

Thanks guys! I’m starting to get used to this finally!

Tracy: I think I can get the pages written up within the week so I can resubmit. I’m pretty satisfied with the format for now, so I probably won’t be changing anything during the reviewing. If anything, I’ll do it now.

Rohit: Thanks! I’ll check out the menu.

My 1337 writing skills? Loozle, this was my most boring post :P

I was’nt talking about the menu. Talking about the top-border grungy image thingy … it’s kinda obvious that it’s a repeated background because of a vertical line … just look into that … besides that I like the layout :) And the l33t english skillz applies to the entire blog :P

Haha, yeah, I noticed that and I still typed menu. I feel stupid! I’ll blur that part a little bit :)

I so want MTSubCategoryLabel and/or MTEntrySubCategoryLabel. I sure could have used it in a project I just completed.
